April 2 is World Autism Understanding Day, an annual campaign developed in partnership with the autism and Autistic communities to create a more supportive, inclusive and autism-friendly Australia.
Charlton Medical respects difference and we work hard to be autism friendly. We see all our patients as individuals with different perspectives and needs, and we hope you feel safe and valued. We are committed to providing an inclusive space for all our patients, including those living with neurodiversity.
Aids and services to include and empower our neurodiverse patients include:
• Welcoming assistance animals trained by an accredited provider
• Providing a quiet space away from the usual waiting room
• Providing a range of sensory toys in each consulting room
• Providing an autism care plan for you to complete prior to your visit where you can tell us your likes and dislikes and help us care for you better
• Providing step-by-step social scripts for visiting the doctor and getting a vaccination
