What to do in an emergency

In an emergency, phone triple zero ‘000’, Australia’s main emergency service number.  You should call 000 first if you need urgent medical help. You can also call 112 from mobile phones, even when your mobile service provider does not have network coverage.  This will connect you to the usual 000 service.  Telstra answers calls to these emergency service numbers and transfers the call along with information about your location to the emergency service you request.

If you have a speech or hearing impairment you can call 106, the text emergency call number, using a teletypewriter (TTY) or a device for the deaf.  Do not text 000.  The National Relay Service also provides ways to access emergency services. Emergency calls are prioritised ahead of other NRS calls.

You can also call 000 using the Emergency+ app on a smart phone. This app was developed by Australia’s emergency services and uses the GPS in your phone to help you provide your exact location if you are away from home.  It also includes CPR videos to help you with lifesaving skills. The free app is available for download from the Apple App store and the Google Play store.
